Cross the street and everything changes. Buenos Aires, more than most cities of comparable size, gives you the feeling of a patchwork quilt city – a city which by the neighborhoods (barrios defined).

If you are a Porteno, one of the residents of Buenos Aires, where he will ask that he does not say, Buenos Aires – he gives you the name of his neighborhood. And if you ask him the best of any self-respecting Barrio Porteño will tell you that his Barrio.

It is best to take this advice lighting and a handful of sample.

The barrios are often visited by tourists and travelers are, in descending order of popularity:

1) Recoleta. Buenos Aires’ equivalent of New York’s Upper East Side or London Knightsbridge. Fancy, ornate and posh. Seeing a short list of things to do and belong to the cemetery, the lobbies of five star hotels (of which the Alvear is the most ostentatious), and Avenida Santa Fe shopping center.

2) Palermo. Known for its parks and its restaurants, bars and colorful shops. Palermo as the best place in Buenos Aires are called to go, it’s probably Palermo Viejo and Palermo Hollywood (two micro-barrios), which describes itself. You are warmest places of BA when you have a part in the crazy city night life that does not even begin to slow until the sun has already seen increased. (A real Buenos Aires night with breakfast should be discontinued.)

3) Downtown (Micro Center). This is Buenos Aires, where the suits to go on a weekday. It is the center of the German economy, a rather large office buildings, narrow crowded streets, and exhaust. concern for the tourists, no business, it’s almost completely uninteresting (if you are unaware of the large numbers who flock there). Towards San Telmo, the older part of town, there are sites to see, however: the Plaza de Mayo, the Casada Rosada equivalent (the “Pink House”, Buenos Aires, “the White House) and the Manzana de las Luces are all worth a visit.

4) San Telmo. One of the barrio cobbled streets, antique shops and colonial villas. In the early days of Buenos Aires, Spanish and the upper crust criollos established themselves in this area and built grandiose buildings with courtyards. If the wealthy citizens fled San Telmo and Recoleta to put cholera epidemics in the late 19th century, to escape to the apartments and turn cracker San Telmo Buenos Aires to leave in central Bohemia. Recently, the interest of visitors and has won the Argentine foreign, brought gentrification to the Barrio. This means that security, once a sore spot, has improved, but prices have shot himself as well.

5) A place where he is still the best for your wallet, however, is La Boca. In fact it is really only recommended to the tourist area of El Caminito where the Argentine Federal Police have deployed visit to see you again. This street with its colorful houses, almost tourist to death. Still no visit to Buenos Aires without a visit to the legendary street in bright colors has been completed. On match days the stadium in La Boca is another major reason for the Barrio to visit.

If you go to Buenos Aires, but do yourself a favor and try to break the established tourist routines, if only for a while. Only a few recommendations of the lesser visited areas where your fellow citizens and fellow travelers are less likely to be tagging along with you are:

Las Cañitas in Belgrano. Restaurants, bars, restaurants galore (plus, it’s just a stone’s throw from Palermo).

Almagro. What used to San Telmo, Almagro still is: Bohemian. Check newspaper listings for tango concerts, independent theater and other events in the area. Meanwhile, the Las Violetas cafe on the corner of Rivadavia Avenue and Medrano street, is one of the most beautifully restored historic cafes in the city.

Mataderos, a remote district where the city is still mischief butchers trade to find even one, rather than the district itself, but for the Sunday market held in the barrio’s main square. This market should not be confused with the markets in San Telmo or Recoleta. It’s bigger, better, including a large selection of authentic hand-craft goods – leather and silver. In spring and summer months, gauchos to perform rodeo displays at the nearby market.
