Tierra del Fuego, an archipelago off the southern tip of Argentina and Chile separated from the mainland by the Magellan Straits, is a place of extremes. Where the Pacific meets the Atlantic, where winds blow hither and yon, where weather is unpredictable, where unusual wildlife abounds, where abundant and diverse adventure activities are limitless, it is a must-visit region for those with a true spirit of exploration. At the tip of Argentina, Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city, is the gateway to the world’s southernmost Tierra del Fuego National Park, situated in the archipelago. Winter or summer, the opportunities for outdoor activity in this national reserve are endless: Hiking, glacier trekking, skiing, tobogganing, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, bird watching and much more is at your fingertips in this amazing environment.

Tierra del Fuego is a geographic paradise of forests, lakes, mountains and marine life. It is Argentina’s only coastal park, its 240 square-miles being flanked by the Andes, which run here east to west, and by the Chilean border on its west. To the south, the park opens to the waters of the Beagle Channel. Exploring this region, you are overwhelmed by awe-inspiring views of snow covered mountains, cerulean lakes, ice-blue fjords and rushing rivers. Water is the prime attraction, with a rich and varied array of coastal wildlife, including seals, killer whales, birds and walruses.

The park’s interior features a full range of hiking options – several short trails are long on fascination with the Sendero Laguna Negro (the Black Lagoon Trail) topping the list, taking you to an amazing lagoon whose dark waters create a mirror-like effect. Bounded by high fjords and glaciers, Fagnano Lake, the sixth largest in the world, is a fisherman’s heaven and excellent for expert kayaking. One of the park’s other outstanding spots is Lapataia Bay at the end of the 3300 km road between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia, where at times you can embark on a Beagle Channel cruise. In addition, this a great district for enjoying the wild outdoors, with camping facilities and tent rental opportunities readily available, and infinite possibilities for adventure tourism.

As Argentina’s southernmost city and the gateway to the park, Ushuaia’ setting is dazzling. Viewing the town from the green waters of the Beagle Channel, you’ll be struck by the rows of brightly colored houses set against the backdrop of the snow-crested Andes Mountains, almost close enough to touch. Magic is everywhere here – the blue of the sky and water nearly blinding in its brightness, the air so fresh and crisp, and the jaw-dropping views surrounding you everywhere.

Ushuaia has its own interesting history and sites: Once the prison home to Argentina’s worst criminals, the town’s bridges, streets and buildings were built by the forced labor of the penal colony to help create what is today a thriving metropolis of nearly 65,000 inhabitants. The Museo Maritimo del Presidio (Maritime Museum) is the actual former prison where visitors can learn about the area’s history as well as access the eerie cell areas of prisoners and imagine life behind its walls in the early 20th century. The museum also displays wax figures of Argentina’s infamous convicts who resided here.

Journeying to Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia, you are indeed going to the end of the world as far as is physically possible before reaching Antarctica.

Tokyo is, overall, the most expensive place in the world to live. The cost of groceries, healthcare, and household accommodation in Tokyo is the highest globally. Caracas is, overall, the second most expensive place to live, and is the most expensive place in the Americas. Hong Kong is, overall, the third most expensive place to live, mainly due to the high cost of household accommodation. Geneva is fourth most expensive followed by Japan’s second most expensive city, Osaka.

Other notable results include:*Luanda is Africa’s most expensive place to live followed by Libreville and Lagos.*Sao Paulo is the Americas second most expensive place to live followed by Rio de Janeiro.*Zurich is Europe’s second most expensive place to live followed by Oslo.*Abu Dhabi is the Middle East’s most expensive place to live followed by Doha and Manama.

The forecast for 2011 is that we are likely to see food shortages, largely as a result of poor harvests in Russia, Canada and Ukraine, a heat wave in Argentina and floods in Australia, Sri Lanka, Brazil and South Africa, all of which will inevitably lead to higher prices later this year. According to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), food prices in December 2010 had already surpassed their previous high in 2008. Given the impact of food on most country’s CPI (inflation) baksets, we can also expect higher inflation in 2011.

This is not all bad news. High food prices are good for farmers and are an added incentive for farmers to produce what we need. Although 2011 will see price increases, 2012 should see prices come down because this year’s higher prices will incentivise farmers to plant more this year.

The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has said recently that demand for oil in 2011 will be stronger than it previously forecast owing to the recovery in the global economy. Demand has already pushed oil prices to nearly 0 a barrel in early January 2011. Given the impact of a high oil price on energy, manufacturing and transport costs, we are likely to see production costs increasing this year.

Consensus amongst economists appears to indicate that the US Dollar will struggle to make gains in 2011. Research shows that it may rise against the euro, for the first six months of 2011. However when it comes to other world currencies, the U.S. Dollar will continue to weaken.

Cost of living data we collected between October and December 2010 has been used to calculate global cost of living indexes relative to New York (i.e. the index for New York is 100). The cost of living indexes represent the cost of living as at 1 January 2011. The indexes have been compiled and reported on a quarterly basis since 2007 for use in calculating international expatriate salary purchasing power and cost of living allowances.

The prices and quantities of goods and services covering 13 basket groups, representing different categories of costs experienced by expatriates were collected for 300 international locations. The results are reported as indexes based on an algorithm of the raw data together with available indexed data from global agencies, such as the World Bank and the United Nations, and local agencies within each country.

The most expensive places to buy each basket are:*Alcohol & Tobacco – Caracas followed by Bangkok and South Tarawa*Clothing – Manama followed by Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro*Communication – Mbabane followed by South Tarawa and Noumea*Education – Sao Paulo followed by Rio de Janeiro and Moscow*Furniture & Appliances – Caracas followed by Moscow and Sao Tome*Groceries – Tokyo followed by Caracas and Copenhagen*Healthcare – Tokyo followed by Caracas and South Tarawa*Household Accommodation – Tokyo followed by Hong Kong and Osaka*Miscellaneous – Moscow followed by Asmara and St. Petersburg*Personal Care – South Tarawa followed by Bishkek and Tehran*Recreation & Culture – Caracas followed by Port Vila and Port Moresby*Restaurants Meals Out and Hotels – Caracas followed by Abu Dhabi and Athens*Transport – Oslo followed by Geneva and Zurich

If price were the most important factor and you wanted to buy each basket in the cheapest places in the world you would buy:*Alcohol & Tobacco in Kuwait City followed by Tehran and Vilnius*Clothing in Sanaa followed by Dhaka and Kampala*Communication in San Jose followed by Conakry and Tehran*Education in Paramaribo followed by Macao and Suva*Furniture & Appliances in Sanaa followed by Malabo and Male*Groceries in Sanaa followed by Bishkek and Buenos Aires*Healthcare in Sanaa followed by Tunis and Tripoli*Household Accommodation in Asmara followed by Nuku’Alofa and Thimphu*Miscellaneous items/services in Dushanbe followed by Colombo and Belmopan*Personal Care in Havana followed by Podgorica and Suva*Recreation & Culture in Malabo followed by Havana and Karachi*Restaurants Meals Out and Hotels in Nuku’Alofa followed by Addis Ababa and Karachi*Transport in Phnom Penh followed by Bujumbura and Jeddah

What will the cost of living rankings look like at the end of 2011? We expect higher cost of living indexes in places exposed to higher inflation as a result of higher food and oil prices. Those places that use the US Dollar, or who have currencies that are fixed against the weakening US Dollar, will find imports becomming more expensive. Overall we expect Europe, South America and Asia-Pacific in particular to become relatively more expensive places to live, while the United States should become relatively less expensive, in global terms, particularly with respect to domestically produced goods and services.

The complete cost of living rank for all 300 locations for all 13 baskets is available here

A foreign holiday trip can be a great occasion for people who have an interest in antiques and artifacts. It will be a huge opportunity to find assets that are not seen at your home country.

Good Deals Chase Inside Rome

Italy has The Great Antiques Market which is one of the biggest in Rome. The Autodromo di Vallelunga will be filled with enthusiastic collectors and antiquarians in the beginning of October.

Here visitors get to see a varied range of parts and equipments ranging from gadgets, clocks and other remaining items of Roman life up to the period of kitsch. It also specializes in vintage cars, furniture and motorcycles. So it is worth to pan to visit here with a little space available in your suitcase

Malaysia’s Antique City

The antique city of Malacca has constructions conserved from 16h century Portuguese invasions and from the 17th century influence of the Dutch. The oldest Dutch structure Stadhuys with its red, thick and the salmon red Christ Church are the two most famous among them.

Malacca is situated 90 minutes drive away from Kuala Lumpur. Malacca is a sanctuary for deal seekers through out the year. Genuine Malaysian and Chinese work of art and remnants can be seen surrounded by a crowd of fascinating collectibles.

The Metropolis of Atlantique

The biggest antique show of the world in Atlantic City in New Jersey is an inevitable show for the antique lovers

It is held twice in a year in March and October. The Atlantic City Convention Centre will be crowded with more than 100,000 people hunting Tiffany lamps and metalwork, European and American bronzes, American folk arts, prints, drawings and fine furniture. They will be also having the celebrity dealers check and appraise their own collection.

The Atlantique City show as well concentrates in American antiques like the macabre, coin-operated machines, medical & scientific technology and advertising.

San Pedro Shopping

The “Feria de Antiguedades de San Telmo” otherwise called San Pedro Telmo Antiques is more of a hobby experience than a market. Brazil has so much to offer it is difficult to narrow down a couple specific destinations, however there is never enough time for everything so to narrow it down it is recommended that the traveler visit Rio de Janeiro, the beautiful and historically significant coastal city and Iguazu Falls, the most extraordinary falls on the planet. From Argentina it is also possible and worth it to visit the other side of Iguazu Falls. Also, it is not recommended that you travel to Argentina without visiting the vibrant capital city of Buenos Aires on the eastern coast. Finally, what is a trip to South America without a visit to Machu Picchu, a world wonder and the highlight of a Peru vacation? This itinerary guarantees that you will visit some of the best South America has to offer.

This South America vacation begins in Rio de Janeiro. The large majority of flights and all international flights flying in and out of Rio from Aeroporto Galeao, also known as Aeroporto Antonio Carolos Jobim. The airport is just 10 miles from the Rio city center. Some domestic flights, especially a Sao Paulo flight fly from Aeroporto Santos Dumont which is in the center of Rio. If you are traveling overland, Rio is served by bus from every major city in Brazil. The bus station, however is located in a sketch area however, so you should defiantly plan on taking a taxi to your hotel from the bus station.

To travel to Iguazu Falls from Rio de Janeiro it is recommended that you fly. Iguazu is right on a cruz between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay so it can be accessed from cities in all three countries: Puerto Iguazu in Argenitina, Foz de Iguazzu in Brazil, and Ciudad del Este in Paraguay. All three cities have airports so depending on where you are choosing to lodge would be a good deciding factor on which city you fly into.

From Iguazu you can take another flight to Buenos Aires. There are buses but a flight is much quicker and more comfortable and you don’t want to lose a lot of time since Buenos Aires has so much to offer its visitors. It is recommended that you spend ample time in this exciting capital before your flight to Cusco, Peru.

Flying to Cusco will take a day since you will have to connect in Lima most likely. Give yourself a couple days to see Cusco and the Sacred Valley as Machu Picchu is by no means the only thing to see in that area of Peru. When you are ready to see the ancient Inca citadel, take the train directly from Cusco or Ollantaytambo. It is a beautiful ride along the Urubamba River with the peaks of the Andes all around you.

The train will take you to Aguas Calientes at the base of Machu Picchu Mountain. From Aguas Calientes there are buses every half hour or so up the mountain to the entrance of the famous Machu Picchu. There is plenty of accommodation in Aguas Calientes so it is recommended that you spend the night there or in the Sanctuary Lodge right outside the ruins. If you wish to return to Cusco there are afternoon trains as well.
